Animal Control

The Animal Control Program's purpose is to prevent the spread of Zoonotic Disease by helping to control the animal population within the City of Elizabeth. The city has an Animal Shelter and works with several rescues to place animals that are in need along with canvassing, investigating animal bites as well as responding to citizen complaints.

The Animal Control Program is responsible for providing all Animal Control services within the City of Elizabeth to include:

  • Animal rescue and adoptions
  • Animal shelter services
  • Canvassing for stray animals
  • Impounding dogs, cats, and other wildlife
  • Rabies clinics

Elizabeth Police Department

The Animal Program works in collaboration with the Elizabeth Police department and the Union County Prosecutor’s Office on issues dealing with Animal Cruelty.
