The Investigations Unit is the primary unit tasked with conducting general criminal investigations of crimes committed by adult offenders. Additionally, the Investigations Unit investigates missing person cases, unattended and suspicious deaths, and fatal overdose deaths. Assigned personnel have specialized knowledge, training and expertise in diverse areas of investigations, including homicide, robbery, sex crimes, burglary, fraud, arson, auto theft, and more. This unit is also responsible for monitoring active Megan’s Law registrations, as well as ABC licenses and second-hand dealer licenses in the City of Elizabeth, and enforcing applicable statutes and ordinances.
The Identification Unit is a branch of the Investigations unit whose primary responsibility is responding to and processing crime scenes. The Identification Unit specializes in crime scene photography and collection of physical, fingerprint and DNA evidence. The Identification Unit is also responsible for generating photo arrays for suspect identification procedures conducted during a criminal investigation.
