Environmental Health Program is under the Division of Health in the Department of Health and Human Services. At the present time it’s staffed with the following:
- One full time Air Pollution Inspector
- One full time Public Health Investigator who is a New Jersey Licensed Registered Environmental Health Specialist.
- One part time Registered Environmental Health Specialist
- Three full time Registered Environmental Health Specialists
Services
The following activities are performed by staff of the Environmental Health Division:
- Inspections and spot checks on all solid waste facilities to ensure compliance with all state and local laws
- Inspections of all Day Care Centers at least once a year
- Inspections of all facilities that have Dance Hall Licenses at least once a year
- Inspections of all Nail Salons in the City of Elizabeth at least once a year
- Inspections of all Recreational Bathing facilities in the City of Elizabeth at least once a year
- Inspections of all Retail Food Establishments in the City of Elizabeth at least once a year
- Inspections of all Schools at least twice a year
- Inspections on all food vendors for special events
- Inspections on all tire shops in the City of Elizabeth at least once a year
- Investigate all environmental and public health related complaints
- Plan reviews on all newly constructed establishments or establishments that propose to do major renovations
- Pre-Operational Inspections of all NJ Licensed Youth Camps once a year
- Pre-Operational Inspections on every new establishment and every existing establishment that changes ownership
- Special investigations and other assignments as needed to include embargoes, tax seizures
