Newly created within the Department of Health & Human Services, the Office of Youth Services works in conjunction with over 60 youth service organizations.
The Office of Youth Services has realized the importance of ensuring that our youth have appropriate resources. Therefore, we have set the following goals and objectives:
•
Provide assistance and referral services
• Coordinate grant programs addressing youth development, health, violence prevention, problem solving, self-esteem building, substance abuse, sexually transmitted diseases, adolescent/teenage pregnancy prevention and after-school activities
•
Develop data systems for ongoing needs assessments and planning
•
Provide a resource directory and referral system for city-based youth programs
Office of Youth Services Mission
The mission of the Office of Youth Services is to promote positive youth development and improve the conditions for children. Identify resources within the community; develop support strategies to allow children/youth to recognize their highest potential. Promote continuous collaboration with community groups and agencies; assist in establishing and expanding programs and services for the youth and encourage them to be contributing members within their communities. The Office of Youth Services will serve as a central point of information in Elizabeth for youth related issues.
