ELIZABETH, NJ—Octobr 17, 2012 — On Tuesday, October 16, 2012, Mayor J. Christian Bollwage joined by Francisco Diaz, the General Manager and the other fellow managers, cut the ribbon at the official grand opening of the new Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar at the Outlet Collection – Jersey Gardens. This new restaurant, operated by Doherty Enterprises, Inc. hired one hundred employees, including ninety-one residents from Elizabeth.

“The City of Elizabeth is constantly working with our partners, like the Retail Skills Center, to provide our community with the resources they need and the opportunities they deserve,” said Mayor J. Christian Bollwage. “Adding one hundred new jobs is a great opportunity to improve the lives of so many people and I would like to thank all of those involved, especially Doherty Enterprises, Inc., for opening their 100th location in Elizabeth.”

The new restaurant features an interior design of comfortable, casual seating and floor-to-ceiling color wall murals throughout the restaurant that depict a montage of  students and athletes from neighboring schools as well as local firemen, police and other members of the community.

“We enjoyed working with Francisco Diaz and his staff on the opening this new restaurant at Jersey Gardens,” said Jose Oliver, Manager of the Retail Skills Center. “We appreciate them hiring over ninety Elizabeth residents and we look forward to working with them on any future hiring requirements.”

The Applebee’s store also presented a check to Elizabeth fire officials for the St. Barnabas Burn Camp, which sends former patients with significant burn injuries to The Children’s Burn Camp to provide an environment that promotes self confidence, mutual respect, pride and accomplishment. The donation was in the amount of $1600.00.
