MAYOR BOLLWAGE SWEARS IN 22 NEW FIREFIGHTERS

ELIZABETH, NJ—August 30, 2012— Mayor J. Christian Bollwage, Councilwoman-At-Large Patricia Perkins-August, along with City and Fire Officials, welcomed 22 new firefighters at a ceremony in City Hall Council Chambers this morning.

“Many municipalities throughout New Jersey had to lay off firefighters due to the economy’s slow growth, however, Elizabeth is one of the only cities in the State to hire 22 new recruits this year,” said Mayor Bollwage. “The job is not easy, but it can be very rewarding, I wish all them much success in their new careers.”

Several new recruits are also bilingual, increasing the ability to interact and communicate with the diverse communities located throughout the municipality.  New recruits include: Michael Just-Cornelius, Alexander Torres, Timothy Cowan, Adam Sheikovitz, Matthew Costello, Jose Lopez, Jeffrey Aliseo, Nicolas Baptista, Brian Morgan, David Bialas, Sean Horton, Christopher Sinclair, Paul Versarge, Daniel Nina, Thomas Fowler, Francisco Escobar, Arminio Loffa, Jason Rodriguez, Gregory Sadowski, Patrick Wirkus, Zachary Muse, and Joseph Rigano Jr.

“These new recruits will become part of a Fire Department that remains committed and dedicated to providing the safety and security necessary for our residents and businesses,” said Councilwoman-At-Large Patricia Perkins-Auguste. “These men will work amongst Elizabeth firefighters who have proven dedication to their profession and our City. We are fortunate to have an outstanding, professional team that is ready to respond in a second’s notice to respond to any emergency.”

The City of Elizabeth is the fourth largest municipality in the State of New Jersey with a population of 124,969.  With its close proximity to the entire tri-state area, the Elizabeth Fire Department responds to an array of calls, incidents and emergency issues. Additional recruits will strengthen and increase overall assistance to residents.
