MAYOR BOLLWAGE TO DECLARE NATIONAL BASEBALL MONTH AT 34th ANNUAL NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
 
ELIZABETH, NJ - July 28, 2017- On Tuesday, August 1, 2017, Mayor J. Christian Bollwage will join city dignitaries at the 34th annual National Night Out. The event will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Dr. Orlando Edreira Academy School #26, which is located at 631-657 Westminster Avenue.
 
“National Night Out provides a wonderful opportunity for families, friends and residents to interact with first responders as well as representatives from city departments and agencies throughout our community,” said Mayor J. Christian Bollwage. “Through sharing information and the availability of services, individuals can learn about programs as well as activities, which can improve their quality of life. I would like to thank all participants for continuing to make this such a successful event.”
 
Music, refreshments and performances by Dojo Nippon Center of NJ as well as other organizations from and around Elizabeth, will be featured at this free event. Informational booths, along with health, safety and security exhibits, including an exciting Jaws of Life demonstration, will also be available. In addition to increasing awareness regarding crime and drug prevention within neighborhoods, National Night Out also offers residents a chance to speak with their Police and Fire Departments in a casual, neighborhood setting. Furthermore, following the conclusion of National Night Out, there will be a presentation of “The Smurfs: The Lost Village” movie, which will begin at 8:30 p.m.
 
For the third year in a row, Mayor Bollwage will also present a proclamation declaring August Baseball Month in the City of Elizabeth. The U.S. Conference of Mayors is leading this nationwide campaign, which encourages Mayors throughout the country to host programs that engage citizens, families and organizations in baseball-related activities.
 
Supporting this effort, on Thursday, August 17, 2017, the City of Elizabeth will be hosting its annual “Play Ball” initiative, which will be held at Hanratty Field, located at 614 Westfield Avenue. Beginning at 3:00 p.m. the event will include a recreational hour of baseball drills, friendly games, free food and giveaways. The City of Elizabeth will also be featured in a segment called “Play Ball Cities of the Week,” on the MLB network.
“Each year the number of residents, who attend Elizabeth’s National Night Out increases and this is a testament to the dedication of our community as well as the departments, organizations and agencies, who participate,” said Councilwoman-at-Large Patricia Perkins-Auguste, “In addition to highlighting wonderful programs and services, this event also provides the opportunity to recognize inspiring individuals, who have made a positive impact through their contributions to our municipality. The difference they have made in the lives of others is appreciated and I offer my congratulations on their efforts.”
