MAYOR BOLLWAGE TO DECLARE NATIONAL BASEBALL MONTH AT 33rd ANNUAL NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

ELIZABETH, NJ—July 28, 2016- On Tuesday, August 2, 2016, Mayor J. Christian Bollwage, along with several other city dignitaries, will host the 33rd Annual National Night Out. This year the event will take place in Carteret Park, located at the intersection of Elmora and Murray Street from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

“National Night Out is a great opportunity to discuss crime prevention efforts as well as enhance relationships between residents and those who protect the community," said Mayor Bollwage. “I would like to thank all of the municipal departments, who help put together this wonderful event in our city; without your dedication and hard work, this anticipated event would not be possible.”

This free celebration will have something for the whole family, including music, refreshments and performances by Dojo Nippon Center of NJ, as well as other organizations from around Elizabeth. In addition, informational booths, along with health, safety and security exhibits, including an exciting Jaws of Life demonstration, will also be available. The event is designed to increase the awareness of crime and drug prevention within neighborhoods. It gives residents a chance to speak with their Police and Fire Departments in a casual and friendly setting.

For the second year in a row, Mayor Bollwage will also present a proclamation declaring August Baseball Month in the City of Elizabeth. The U.S. Conference of Mayors is spearheading this nationwide campaign, encouraging Mayors throughout the country to host programs, which will engage citizens, families and organizations in baseball-related activities.

Furthermore, on Wednesday, August 17, 2016, the City of Elizabeth will be hosting “Play Ball,” which is an event that will feature a series of drills and games to get our residents involved and promote baseball in all forms. The event will be held at 5:00 p.m. at Drotar Field, which is located at 500 Clifton Street. It will feature food, giveaways and fun for the entire family.

“As the Councilman of the Second Ward, I am happy to host this great event. My priorities as Councilman include ensuring our neighborhoods are safe and our residents are happy,” said Councilman Nelson Gonzalez. “In addition, I would like to thank Mayor Bollwage for declaring August Baseball Month. Just like National Night Out, baseball brings people of all backgrounds and ages together as well as unites us as a community.”

Government Officials will also hand out special commendations to residents, who have contributed to the improvement of their community. Event sponsors include: The City of Elizabeth, Wakefern Food Corp, IHOP of Elizabeth, Cheryl Payne, Home Depot, Elmora Healthcare, Elizabeth PBA Local #4, Fantasy Novelty Party Shop and Party Factor.
