MAYOR BOLLWAGE ANNOUNCES ENROLL ELIZABETHHEALTH INSURANCE ASSISTANCE

ELIZABETH, NJ – November 13, 2014 – Mayor J. Christian Bollwage, in partnership with Shaping Elizabeth, would like to announce Enroll Elizabeth, an open enrollment day that can help assist residents, who need health insurance, have to renew, or change their current plan.

This free event will take place on Monday, November 24, 2014 at the Stephen Sampson Senior Center, located at 800 Anna Street in Elizabeth from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. If a resident is unable to attend and needs health insurance, enrollment for the Affordable Healthcare Act will take place from November 15, 2014 through February 15, 2015. City personnel are here to help and answer any questions constituents may have.

“This day is provided free of charge to help residents gain access to affordable and quality health insurance. The City’s certified staff will be able to provide guests with information on benefits, rights and protections as well as what each plan includes,” said Mayor J. Christian Bollwage. “If you have not registered for health insurance yet, I encourage you to do so. Our team is ready to help provide our constituents with the help they need.”

ObamaCare, also known as the Affordable Care Act (or ACA for short), was signed into law by President Obama on March 23, 2010. The overall goal is to reform the health care industry by giving more Americans access to health insurance and reducing the growth in health care spending in the United States.

Throughout 2013, the City of Elizabeth has assisted hundreds of people. Certified staff can help residents in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole and Portuguese. Participants are required to bring with them: a copy of their 2013 tax return, their social security card, proof of income, a valid form of identification and their proof of citizenship card (green card). They must also bring photo identification and a valid social security card for each exemption they are claiming.

This initiative is being organized by the City of Elizabeth Health and Human Services Department in collaboration with Shaping Elizabeth, a community forum to share ideas and thoughts on how to improve the health and well-being of the Elizabeth community. Sponsors also include: Get Covered America, Planned Parenthood, Health Insurance Marketplace, SRA International, Inc., the YWCA and WellCare.

Any Elizabeth resident, who would like assistance in enrolling or have questions about this event, can contact the Department of Health and Human Services at 908-820-4705.
