JERSEY GARDENS HOSTS JOB FAIR FOR THE NEW LEGO STORE

ELIZABETH, NJ—April 9, 2012 — Mayor J. Christian Bollwage announced that the Retail Skills Center in Jersey Gardens Mall will host a job fair on Saturday, April 21, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., in connection to the grand opening of the new Lego Store set to open this Spring.

“The City of Elizabeth continues to work with the Retail Skills Center to look for ways to connect our residents with the job training and opportunities that will help make them successful in their careers,” said Mayor J. Christian Bollwage. “In today’s economy, programs like today’s job fair are critical to all efforts to keep our residents working and our economy growing.”

The Lego store which is scheduled to open on Friday, May 18th, is the third store in New Jersey and will hire thirty new sales associates to their team.

“We are pleased to open the Center for the job fair with The Lego Group,” said Joseph Oliver, Manager of the Retail Skills Center. “One of the great features of the Center is being domiciled here at the Jersey Gardens Mall. It gives us firsthand knowledge when the stores are opening, so we can reach out to the residents to give them the first opportunity to interview for the jobs.”

The Lego Group, which was first established in 1932, is a privately held company from Denmark, owned by Kirk Krisitiansen Family.  The company today, provides toys, experiences and teaching materials for children in more than 130 countries. The LEGO Group has approximately 10,000 employees, and it is the world's third largest manufacturer of play materials.

“Since the opening day of the Retail Skills Center, the residents of Elizabeth have been given hope and opportunity to succeed,” said Councilwoman-At-Large Patricia Perkins-Auguste.  “With the state of the economy, adding thirty new jobs is a blessing and these job fairs continue to improve the lives of so many people.”
