ELIZABETH DESTINATION MARKETING ORGANIZATION RECEIVES STATE TOURISM EXCELLENCE AWARD
 
ELIZABETH, NJ—March 7, 2016 - Mayor J. Christian Bollwage announced this morning that the Elizabeth Destination Marketing Organization (EDMO) was chosen as the recipient of the 2016 New Jersey State Tourism Digital Outreach Award. Their efforts are setting a trend for utilizing technology to maximize tourism outreach within the State of New Jersey. 
 
“I would like to congratulate EDMO on their achievements as well as continued work to improve the quality of life throughout our community,” said Mayor J. Christian Bollwage. “I encourage all local businesses to contact the EDMO office and become a part of this exciting initiative. We know our City is great, but sharing our quality services, dedication to excellence and commitment to exceeding expectations with the region, country and world is what elevates a location to the number one choice for a visit, vacation or extended stay.”
 
EDMO officially launched just twelve months ago. It was established to increase and improve the marketing and development of the City of Elizabeth as a year-round destination. With close proximity to New York City, Elizabeth offers the appeal and amenities of neighborhood living combined with the diversity, opportunities and rich history of a big city.  In addition to being the 4th largest municipality in New Jersey, Elizabeth is the County Seat; home to the Union County Courthouse, educational and notable historic sites, thriving business districts as well as a remarkable Mall. In addition, it is accessible by two New Jersey Turnpike exits, a Seaport and neighboring Newark Liberty International Airport.

As a resident of Elizabeth, I truly believe we have so much to offer as a destination and it is an honor to be able to use our digital outreach marketing strategies to let the world know," said Jennifer Costa, Director of EDMO. “Moving forward, we are excited to have our hotels and community partners truly capitalize on this new tourism initiative for our great City of Elizabeth.”
 
The following criteria were considered for the award: digital outreach, partnerships, advertising and public relations. EDMO has focused on building their infrastructure and working closely with partners to enhance marketing initiatives, coordinate events and increase the municipality's exposure as a historic, entertainment, shopping, dining and recreational destination. 
 
Multiple components of EDMO's Digital Outreach Project have been created to assist in demonstrating that Elizabeth is a year-round destination. Some of those include a new tourism website and mobile app, social media sites and an interactive informational kiosk in The Mills at Jersey Gardens. Other aspects consisted of state-of-the-art drone footage and artistic branding videos to highlight some of Elizabeth’s tourism demand generators. EDMO continues to take a revolutionary approach to audience behavioral targeting by running online direct target campaigns for respective enthusiasts outside New Jersey.
 
The New Jersey Tourism Industry Association is comprised of thousands of businesses and community leaders that make a difference in state.
