CITY OF ELIZABETH TEAMS UP TO HOST WATERFRONT CLEANUP

ELIZABETH, NJ—October 8, 2015 - The City of Elizabeth in coordination with Groundwork Elizabeth will be hosting a cleanup of the Elizabeth Waterfront on Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

“I applaud all of the organizations and participants, who will be dedicating their time and effort in cleaning up our Elizabeth Waterfront this weekend,” said Mayor J. Christian Bollwage.  “These efforts revitalize our environment and empower volunteers to take action in preserving and conserving local resources. The City of Elizabeth is proud to team up with Groundwork Elizabeth who is committed to making the world a better place. I would like to everyone for their dedication to improve the places where they live and work.”

More than one hundred and fifty (150) volunteers have already registered to help for the day, including PG the Kangaroo of Promiseland Global Kids (PGK), who provides quality educational products and entertainment. Participants are advised to wear closed toe shoes and comfortable clothing. The event will also teach participants about local ecosystems and how their survival depends on our street.

“I am excited about the Elizabeth Waterfront Cleanup event as this has already been an incredible collective effort. We currently have over one hundred high school students who have volunteered their time to help and this is what makes our community great,” said Councilman Carlos Torres. “Keeping our community free of debris and litter improves the environment as well as enhances the appearance of our municipality. I encourage everyone to take pride in the beautification of our home."

Jonathan Phillips, Executive Director of Groundwork Elizabeth, is thrilled that Groundwork has the support of the Mayor, the City and the Councilman for the First Ward.  “A community willing to lend its time to events like our Waterfront Cleanup demonstrates people willing to invest their time in building a healthy future”.
