ELIZABETH, NJ - April 28, 2015 - Mayor J. Christian Bollwage will join Councilman-At-Large Frank J. Cuesta and other dignitaries at the 9th Annual Scholarship Awards Program at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2015 at the Renaissance Newark Airport Hotel.
“Every year we honor exceptional students who not only excel in school but are active community leaders,” said Mayor Bollwage. “This worthy organization is a great tradition in our City that is dedicated to assisting the youth of Elizabeth as they advance their education after high school. On behalf of the entire City, I wish them well in all their future endeavors and thank them for their commitment and dedication.” 
Spearheaded by Frank Cuesta, who is the President of the organization, a City of Elizabeth Councilman-At-Large as well as a former educator, Elizabeth's Promise Awards, Inc. is a non-profit, non-political, non-partisan organization. This year, organizers will award scholarship to approximately thirty-three (33) exceptional individuals as well as honor Elizabeth Board of Education Commissioner Maria Z. Carvalho and retired school administrator Deborah Dixon. 
This event celebrates the best and brightest within our community. The recipients of these awards display a strong work ethic and dedication to acquiring diverse knowledge as well as broadening their educational horizons through academic study.  They are impressive young men and women, who convey an interest in providing help to others as well as positively impacting and making a difference throughout the community. 
"I am proud to be able to help outstanding students from Elizabeth attend college with our Elizabeth's Promise Scholarship Program,” said Councilman-At-Large Frank Cuesta.  “The assistance provided through this organization is life changing, evidenced by the numerous past recipients, who have returned as mentors, Board members and contributors. This year alone we were able to raise approximately $60,000 thanks to the support of our elected officials, business community and residents.”  
During tonight’s regularly scheduled meeting, the Council Members will honor these same recipients with a commendation. Recipients of the scholarships include: Ketanny Alves, Britney Moreira, Vanessa Landaverde, Eva Lynch-Comer, Jonathan Hernandez, Keyona Davis, Roger Ortiz, Emily Salmanowitz, Madison Pujols, Elsie Munoz, Ines Zapata, Melanie Rua, Lina Sanchez, Katherine Palacios, Adrien Cortizo, Oscar L. Cortizo, Rodrigo Ospina, Rocio Paniagua, Michael Rojas, Priscilla Pierre, Michelle Megala, Gabriella Cespedes, Jenna Caldwell, Matthew Downey, Krystian Melo, Breysson Ospina, Miguel Marques, Maria Ramirez, Genesis Gazo, Justine Hopes, Brian Carvalho, Onyx Flores and Isaiah Carter.
For nine years, the Elizabeth's Promise Awards, Inc. has presented scholarships to focused and goal-oriented young people. As a 501 (c) (3) tax exempt organization, it provides the financial support students need to continue on their path to excellence. Since its inception, more than $200,000 in funds have been donated and approximately 200 scholarships have been awarded. 
Elizabeth Promise Awards, Inc. is reaching out to individuals, who would like to support this great cause. Tickets are on sale and will include a sit-down dinner, music, door prizes and much more. This event is by reservation only, so tickets must be purchased by April 30, 2015, as they will not be sold at the door.
