Bronner “Bronco” Rivers
Bronner “Bronco” Rivers was born January 1, 1916 in Augusta Georgia to Lila Bronner Rivers and James “Jimmy” Rivers. Mr. Bronco left Georgia at a very early age, and arrived in Elizabeth, New Jersey in the early 1930’s where he decided to make his new home. Some years later he met our mother, Elizabeth O. Washington and later married her.
During his life long years living in Elizabeth, Mr. Bronco (which the young people called him) started managing softball teams and later on added little league baseball to his accomplishments. Our father was a likeable and kind hearted person. All of his team members young and older had a love for him that gave off luminous respect. Lives were turned around for the better and perhaps some were saved because of Mr. Bronco’s influence and love for softball and little league baseball.
The neighborhood taverns and stores were his sponsors. He was the best coach in his days, the teams were so good that they traveled to different states to play other good teams, but his team was the best winning many championships and many trophies.
Our father “Bronner Bronco Rivers” was truly a great person for the community of Elizabeth, New Jersey.
