2008 Inductees

Glenn R. Bates
Glenn R. Bates was born on May 8, 1962 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, the eldest of two sons to Willie and Nancy Foreman-Bates. Both he and his brother, Richard W. grew up and were educated in the Elizabeth school system. Glenn graduated from the Elizabeth High School in 1980.
Active in sports from an early age, Glenn joined the Police Athletic League football team (PAL). In 1975 he received the “Most Valuable Player” award. He also participated in the Elizabeth Little League baseball and wresting programs.
In high school Glenn was a three sport letterman, he participated in football, coached by Don Somma, basketball, coached by Ron Kelly and Robert Firestone and track, coached by Dave Castello and Robert Firestone. Glenn received the following awards: Elizabeth High School MVP; All Conference; All Metro; All State and The Black Athletic Association All Star Award. He was selected to play in the 2nd Annual North-South NJ High School Football All Star game.
Glenn attended Arizona Western Jr. College in the fall of 1980 through the fall of 1981. He played in two consecutive National Junior College Championship Games: 1980 – against Coffeyville - 1981 – against Ricks College.
In January 1982 he transferred to Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, having been recruited at a time when Marshall was rebuilding its football program. Glenn received:

In 1983 he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Maulers (USFL) in the 11th round. From 1984 through the 1986 season Glenn played Semi-pro ball for the New Jersey Bears of East Orange, New Jersey.
He is the proud father of Tarrah Nicole and Glenn Marcus Bates and continues to reside in New Jersey. For the past 12 years, Glenn has been a Corrections Officer for the State of New Jersey and continues to attend and enjoy the sporting events hosted by the Elizabeth High School.
