2005 Inductees

Rodney Carter

Rodey Carter grew up in the Port of Elizabeth and graduated from Elizabeth High School in 1982. Rodney was a First Team All-State, All Group, star in both Football and Baseball. He excelled as an outfielder for 3 years on the Minutemen Baseball team under Coach Ray Korn.

Following his senior year in baseball, Rodney was selected by the Major League Texas Rangers in the June Draft of 1982 and represented Elizabeth in the NJ North/South Baseball Game held at Princeton, NJ. He went on to Purdue University where he started as a freshman on the Purdue baseball team as a leftfielder. Rodney discontinued his baseball career to concentrate on his Football career at Purdue. Rodney came to Purdue after having a stellar Football career at Elizabeth High School where he led a talented to Elizabeth High School’s first State Championship since 1970 under Coach Don Somma. Rodney went on to represent Elizabeth High School in the NJ North-South All-Star Football Classic held annually at Rutgers University.

Rodney, a 17-year-old freshman, was the youngest player to start at Purdue on Opening Day vs. Stanford University and John Elway in the fall of 1982. Rodney went on to have a fabulous career at Purdue where in his senior year Rodney finished the season being selected as a First Team All-Big Ten Runningback. He also led the NCAA in receiving with 98 receptions to lead the Nation. Rodney finished his career at Purdue University in 1985 as the All-Time Leader in Receptions with 181.

Following his career, Rodney has done some coaching at the high school level. In 1998 and 1999, Rodney was a member of the Football Staff of Hunterdon Central High School in Flemington, NJ, along with his former high school coach Don Somma. There Rodney was instrumental in helping the school win back-to-back Championships in Central Jersey, Group IV Division.

Rodney, who graduated from Purdue University with a BA degree, is currently working in the Pharmaceutical Industry as a Sales Representative for Merck and Co., Inc. Along with his wife Yvonne, who was an All-American Athlete in Track and Field at Purdue University, and his two kids, Anthony and Jasmine, they currently reside in Bethlehem, PA.
